Ron Weasley

Ronald "Ron" Bilius Weasley (born 1 March 1980) is a fictional character in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series of children's books. He has been portrayed by actor Rupert Grint in all Harry Potter films so far.

His two best friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are Harry Potter, the main character of the series, and Hermione Granger. Ron and Harry meet in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' while Harry is searching for Platform 9¾ at King's Cross railway station. They share a compartment on the Hogwarts Express, where Ron shows Harry his pet rat Scabbers and Harry shares some sweets with Ron.

All characters call him "Ron", with the exceptions of Luna Lovegood (who calls him by his full name "Ronald") and Ron's ex-girlfriend Lavender Brown (who used the endearment of "Won-Won"). Ron is the son of Arthur and Molly Weasley, and brother of Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George and Ginny.

Ron's father, Arthur Weasley, was previously the head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office within the Ministry of Magic, a lowly post which did not earn his family much; consequently, many of Ron's possessions are second-hand, a fact he is sensitive about. Arthur received a promotion to the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Ron likes to play Wizard's Chess and teaches Harry how to play. Ron suffers from arachnophobia stemming from the time his brother Fred turned his teddy bear into a spider. He feels himself driven to success, being eclipsed (as he feels) by the accomplishments of his older brothers; thus, he is somewhat of a glory hound, enjoying publicity whenever it finds him, and is prone to fits of jealousy even towards Harry and Hermione, but ultimately his loyalty and affection for both is unquestionable.

He shares his dormitory at Hogwarts with Harry Potter, Neville Longbottom, Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas.
